FAQ

Why trust VigiMotion?

Pourquoi choisir VigiMotion

Why choose the VigiMotion alarm system over another?

Unlike a traditional alarm system, our system allows you to check what triggered the alarm by sending a short video clip. As soon as a sensor detects unusual movement, the built-in camera is triggered and provides immediate verification of a crime in progress to the 24-hour monitoring station operator, allowing law enforcement to respond quickly to apprehend intruders.

Installation

Where can I install a VigiMotion system?

The entire VigiMotion system is 100% wireless and runs on batteries and solar power, so it can be installed anywhere there is cellular reception. Control panels communicate with monitoring stations via the 3G/4G cellular network or a wired Ethernet connection. For remote sites where the cellular signal may be weaker, a directional Yagi antenna kit is available.

You don’t need to purchase additional lighting. Vigi-Cams have built-in infrared illuminators with an outdoor range of 30 feet.

No. The advanced algorithmic technology in the PIR means that the VigiCam does not trigger in rain, snow, or lightning, except in extreme cases. In an extreme case, the alarm is video-verified, and the 24-hour monitoring center operator can easily validate that it is not a crime in progress, thus avoiding a false alarm.

Vidéos et Télésurveillance

Can the VigiMotion system be self-monitored?

VigiMotion panels always transmit to our 24-hour monitoring center staffed by professional personnel to provide customers with full-time security and peace of mind. Customers are notified only when human activity has been confirmed, not for non-urgent events.

VigiMotion is designed to verify an incident in progress, not to identify individuals. That is why the video resolution is fixed and the file size deliberately reduced to ensure the fastest possible transmission to the remote surveillance center and thus obtain a quicker response from the police to the crime in progress.

VigiMotion is an instant video transmission tool, enabling a response while the crime is still in progress (and also depriving an intruder of the opportunity to vandalize or steal throughout the night). The goal is to transmit video verification as quickly as possible, and low resolution is essential to this process. Traditional high-resolution camera systems are best used as historical video tools for post-event tracking.

While VigiMotion’s Vigi-Cams have cameras and motion detectors integrated into the same component, video cameras are not synonymous with security, but rather with surveillance for consultation AFTER the event. In a few rare cases, surveillance cameras can be managed by the remote monitoring center, but transmission delays make the application virtually useless.

Although sold together, wired alarm systems and surveillance cameras are fundamentally disconnected, do not offer priority police response, and are a much more expensive solution than VigiMotion. VigiMotion’s VIDEO-VERIFIED alarms are professionally monitored by operators at the 24-hour remote monitoring center for the safety of property and people, faster police response, and arrests.

The VideoApp4All smartphone app allows owners to control their system remotely and receive videos from their site, but the video alarm is still monitored by VigiMotion for a faster response from the police.

Privacy and security

Is my privacy at risk with surveillance cameras?

No. The VigiMotion system has been designed to protect customer privacy. It is impossible to “hack” into the VigiMotion system and see what the Vigi-Cams are seeing. The Vigi-Cam can only send video from the system. Smartphone apps provide customers with a secure and sophisticated way to “communicate” with the system. Upon request, the Vigi-Cam takes a photo and sends it to the customer’s smartphone for review. These are recent captures.

No, radio communications between VigiMotion devices, including cameras, and the panel are above 900 MHz. This is an entirely different wireless frequency that will not affect your Wi-Fi network. Communication between the panel and the central station may be over Wi-Fi (depending on the model used), but the file size (200 KB) is so small that it has no impact on Wi-Fi network performance.

VigiMotion does not affect Wi-Fi network security, as the panel only communicates in the outgoing direction, eliminating the need to open the firewall (no port forwarding, no static IP addresses required). The panel remains behind the firewall and only communicates with the 24-hour monitoring center server.

Arrests and insurance.

How does VigiMotion reduce losses?

According to a 2012 report by Pharmacists Mutual Insurance Company, when the police response time is less than 5 minutes, they see an arrest rate of 21%. Once the response time exceeds 6 minutes, the arrest rate drops by half.

Insurance Networking News reported in 2012 that one arrest prevented 30 additional burglaries. Arresting professionals prevents additional crimes and not only direct losses, but also indirect costs such as claims adjusters, claims processing, etc.
